Kengo Kuma's vision of the Portuguese Chair

Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, renowned for his work with natural materials and his fusion of architecture and landscape, presents a new interpretation of the Portuguese Chair for Expo 2025 Osaka - the 5008 OSAKA. This reinterpretation respects the essence of the original design, while introducing new elements that engage with culture and sustainability. Kuma intends to explore new materials and shapes, creating a piece that reflects both Portuguese tradition and Japanese innovation.

Inspired by the timeless Portuguese Chair, the 5008 OSAKA reinterprets its functional design, reducing it to the essential elements that define its structure. In this process of purification, the aim is to achieve maximum visual lightness, creating a piece that almost dissolves in space. Made entirely of metal, the chair reveals the precision and mastery of local manufacture. Its clean lines and transparent structure allow the piece to merge with the surrounding landscape, lending it the colors, light and shadows of the environment.

5008 OSAKA explores sustainable materials and innovative manufacturing techniques, aligning itself with the environmental and cultural values promoted by Expo 2025 Osaka. The use of ecological materials and more efficient production processes ensure that the piece is in line with contemporary sustainable design requirements.
